About Us

For the past twenty-five The Technology Academy has provided support for young people in the Northern Virginia area who would benefit from a non-traditional approach to their education.
At the Academy students are offered a chance to earn high school credits toward graduation while receiving pre-apprenticeship training and work-study experience.

The Technology Academy provides GED prep, credit recovery, night school, online courses, and summer school.

Students benefit from small group sessions and individual counseling on career and life issues. The Academy also provides transition support for its graduates who will further their education in a post-secondary environment or who are heading directly into the work force.

Where our "Each One Reach One" saying came about.

It all started with a story... Sometime ago a well-known writer was having a writer's block. He decided to retreat to his beach home to help overcome this problem. One night there was a terrible storm and when he awoke the next morning there were hundreds of starfish all over the beach. While looking out the window at the beached starfish the writer noticed a little boy gathering them up and throwing them back into the ocean. The boy continued this process and this action puzzled the writer. The writer walked out on to the beach and approached the boy. "May I ask you a questions" asked the writer to the boy. "Sure" answered the boy. "What are you doing? asked the writer with a puzzled, condescending look. "I'm saving the starfish" replied the boy blankly. The writer paused for a moment and rephrased his question. "What does it matter, you can't save them all" he said to the boy. Without hesitation the boy picked up another starfish, raised it to the writer and said "It matters to this one," and tossed the starfish into the ocean.

For teachers: We give our best efforts to reach out and try to save them all and although some may act like it doesn't matter, it does matter to at least one so keep on trying.

What we convey to our students:

If we reach out and try to do at least one nice action to one person everyday it will matter a lot to them and, hopefully, they will pass it on and "pay it forward."
